It’s My Birthday!

birthday girl

I turn 26 today! I was reflecting back these past few days, and it just dawned on me. Did I really just turn 16 years old TEN years ago?

So, that got me thinking…if I could tell my 16-year old self two things, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid of failure

I used to say failure is not an option especially when it came to academics. Growing up in a Filipino household, my parents were very strict with me. It was a huge no-no to get anything less than an “A” (not kidding!), and since my parents had high standards for me, I did for myself as well.   But if you don’t fail, how can you ever learn? Different experiences through college, my personal life, and stepping into the real world with my first big girl job finally opened my eyes as to WHY you shouldn’t be afraid of failing. Failure gives you the opportunity to learn, to become better, and most importantly to become stronger and wiser than you were the first time. Don’t ever forget: “Failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.” – Arianna Huffington

Don’t worry about what other people think of you. Just do YOU, girl!

When I was in high school, I was definitely self-conscious. When you’re a teenager all you really want to do is be liked. Uggs weren’t the most desired pair of shoes back then, but I remember getting them because I liked how different they were and of course how warm they kept your feet. I was excited to finally wear them when school started. I didn’t think my outfit was going to get a lot of attention as it did! I had a friend who would not stop making fun of me for literally the whole day. It didn’t help that my other friends played along. I’m not going to lie! It definitely hurt my feelings. Let’s just say, I never wore them to school again! Point is – there’s going to be people who bring you down, who tell you what you’re wearing looks ridiculous, they’ll tell you your dreams are too big and it’s impossible. Don’t worry about what other people say or what they think about you. There will always be haters. All that matters is your own opinion of yourself.

And, there you have it! Two life lessons that are sooo important!

Aw girl you look stunning! Happy 26 🙂

I totally agree with your two statements. One should never be afraid of failure because it’s all about taking risks and learning how to get back up! And not caring what other people think is something I learned myself! I used to be so aware of other’s judgments and letting it affect my life choices/decisions. Not anymore!!!

    Have an amazing one!
