“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go” -T.S. Eliot

I decided to say goodbye to the corporate world back in April leaving behind a six figure income as a Recruiting Manager at an agency that serves Fortune Tech 500 companies. My friends and family thought I was nuts! I got the same questions over and over again…Why would you do that? Are you crazy?  Why would you leave a safe and secure job?

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t as easy it sounds.  I was super scared and something as risky as this took a lot of courage to do.

When I first started Styleurday, I had no idea that it could be something that I could turn into a business.  Styleurday was meant to be a place where I can let my creativity shine and share my own personal style to inspire others.  I didn’t go towards the traditional route either as I started an Instagram account first and continued to grow a following through there.  Within my sixth month of starting my Instagram account, I secured my first paid collaboration.  It wasn’t hundreds of dollars, but hey it was something!

So, that got me thinking … Maybe I can really turn this into something big … but how? One of the best advices I’ve ever gotten to this day is, “If someone is where you want to be, ask them how they got there.” I did exactly that. I would reach out to other bloggers who I admired and asked for their advice. Every bit of advice that I was able to get helped me see what it took for them to get where they wanted to be.  I had no marketing experience whatsoever. I didn’t understand how important analytics were, what it meant to grow a brand, and how important the visual aesthetic of your feed needed to be.   I spent every moment studying the world of fashion blogging, networking, and understanding how huge of an impact influencer marketing has.

Fast forward to the official launch of my blog, that’s when I started to partner with more brands. The only issue I faced was the time and commitment that I could dedicate to Styleurday. It was a tough act balancing a full-time job and managing your own business.  Through more and more collaborations and partnerships, I was able to generate enough income to cover my monthly expenses. When I finally realized this, I thought to myself “If this is something that I’m truly passionate about, why don’t I dedicate all of my time to it?”

After weighing out the pros and cons, I finally decided to take the plunge and quit my day job officially joining the Quitter’s Club! Since then, I’ve purely been able to concentrate on building my blog and brand. To me, being an influencer means that I can partner with brands that I’m excited about and become a part of their campaigns.  Now,  I can purely focus on Styleurday and another company that I co-founded with my boyfriend who’s also an entrepreneur himself.

I’ve always dreamed of being my own boss as a kid. Why work for someone else? We live in a time now where being entrepreneurial is a necessity in an economy that’s changing rapidly. You have the freedom to create what you want and do what you want.  I have a lot of great things planned for Styleurday in the upcoming year so I can’t thank you enough to all of you who have been on this journey with me.

Stay determined, you can do anything you set your mind to. Whatever your dream is, close your eyes and imagine the vision, and once you open your eyes come up with a plan to make it a reality. All it takes is a lot of hard work, being dedicated to improving yourself, and an unbreakable faith in achieving your dreams.  The world is yours for the taking!

Do what you love with style, Kyla

Great style! I recently quit my day job earlier this year to become a freelance blogger/writer so I totally can relate to everything you’ve shared! My family and friends thought I was nuts and probably still do because it’s just not “normal” for them to do what I’ve been doing. Glad to hear/see others in a similar boat 🙂 Hope your weekend is going well! xoxo, sharon
